MNYWANENI ZS/KN-240

Posted on 15th Jun 2019

Travelling through the forest is alway a challenge, firstly there are so many roads which end up as dead ends, we stopped at one of the villages to ask directions to the summit which we could see from the road, the local gent explained the basic direction, so off we went, we found the road through the plantation which ended up at a closed gate.

Station set up on MNYWANENI ZS/KN-240

we back tracked to the main road, then we remembered that we had seen a Sappi stock pile site about a kilo from where we were, making a turn at the yard we obtained permission to open the gate which lead us to the summit, the track leading to the summit was not in a good condition at all, this meant 4×4 driving all the way to the summit

Setting the station was quick, the 703 with the linked dipole does it for us, calling cq was answered by Roy ZS3RW, Craig ZS6CHT followed bt Christi ZS4CGL and his YL Marie ZS4MG and lastly Neels ZS1OB, The band went quiet so we changed to 14.300 but got no response so we tried 10.130 also with no response, at this point we decided to call it a day, we broke station and headed down to where we had left the 4×4,after loading the equipment it was time for lunch,

The trip home was uneventful but the view made up for it
