Posted on 3rd Aug 20193rd Aug 2019
ZS/MP-135

We left our son’s QTH in Nelspruit around 10:00 on Friday the 5 July for the 10 hour trip home, about 30k/m from Barberton a summit ZS/MP-135 popped up on the GPS, indicating that it was about 15 min to the summit, we followed the direction on the GPS only to come to section which was not accessible, so we turned around, the idea was to now see if we could access the summit from the opposite side, we soon had to make a turn on a bush track this meant making a 10 point turn, coming out of the bush area we saw what look like another track which went further around the back side of the mountain, this track took us into the activation zone, Adele set up the radio while sorted the antenna out, our first contact was with div 4 YM Dennis at 11.09 UTC and then we made a further 6 contacts before we started down the Mountain which was about 12.20 UTC. Looking at time we decided to stay over in Volksrust for the night and set off again on Saturday

At the B&B we thought that maybe we could activate Majuba ZS/KN-087 the following morning, but it was really cold and after I spoke to the owner of the B&B who advised us not to attempted it in the winter, we let that one slide, on our way to the highway the N3 we decided to go the Winterton way and check out Arthers Seat KN/ZS-193 checking the access route to the summit, making it much easier on the Sunday when we planned to activate. The GPS took us through the plantation straight to the activation zone, the question now was, do we try and activate then or come back on the Sunday well we decided to try and activate. I turned the 4X4 (Kirby by name) around and drove out of the AZ walking back into the AZ our set up, for this activation we used the Icom703 and the Sherpa 100 Goal Zero battery that I purchased in Australia, we made 9 contacts 8 on 40m and 1 on 30m once again thanks to our chasers, we started down from Arthurs Seat at 14.00 UTC
